Easy copy of lyrics from SMF to audio version

Dikikeys
(In response to a conversation on another thread about the subject)

Would it be possible to have an easy macro to transfer embedded lyric data and timing from an SMF to an audio recording of the SMF? It would probably need an offset field for audio recordings not trimmed to the EXACT start time of the SMF (an auto detect might be nice!), but other than that, a basic one-step process to copy everything fairly hands free?

Or have I missed an already easy way to do this?

The easiest way (better late than never ):

Open the SMF file and go to sync mode, select all and copy.
Open the MP3 file, go to sync mode and paste.

Use the shift tool to adjust timing.

Doh!

But maybe an automated way in future? Batch copy a folder, then all that’s needed is offset adjustment...

Could the first MIDI note and first audio be compared and aligned to automate that?

I've just found a bug on this copy/paste method. It works fine between two audio files but have problems when copying between MIDI and audio.
Fixed on current development version.

Super... I expect the release notes will say when fixed?

Meanwhile, any thoughts about an automated ‘first note’ detect? I am guessing this might involve new code to detect audio levels above the noise floor so that the time of the first note can be detected in the audio version and compared to the SMF’s, so I realize it’s not a simple feature, but probably the main objection I hear towards having audio backups of SMF’s in case a VSTi gets unsupported in future OS’s, or a better one becomes available but their laptop can’t run it well is the sheer numbers of files they have to convert their entire collections.

Any way to automate the process would go a long way to easing migration away from legacy soundsets...
